European Commission Weighs Four 'Mitigating' Steps To Blunt China MES

The European Commission is considering at least four changes to the way it enforces its trade remedy law that it believes would blunt the impact of extending market economy status (MES) to China in antidumping cases and thereby make that change more politically palatable to affected domestic industries. EU legal sources familiar with the commission's proposals, however, question whether the "mitigating measures" being floated by the commission would comply with World Trade Organization rules, and whether they would be effective...
