Buttigieg says farmer bailouts would continue if elected president

Democratic presidential candidate Peter Buttigieg said during Wednesday night’s presidential debate his administration would continue to issue payments to farmers hit by retaliatory tariffs. President Trump instructed the Agriculture Department to issue trade mitigation packages of $16 billion in 2019 and $12 billion in 2018, which included trade promotion programs and direct payments to farmers hurt by tariffs imposed by countries hit by the Trump administration’s Section 232 and 301 tariffs.
