House bill would prevent NMEs from using third countries to dodge duties

House Ways & Means Committee member Jodey Arrington (R-TX) has introduced a bill to levy Section 301 tariffs on non-market economies using investments in third countries to evade such duties. The “ Axing Non-Market Tariff Evasion Act ” would grant the U.S. International Trade Commission authority to investigate whether NMEs subject to Section 301 tariffs are using or plan to use investments in third countries to dodge duties imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
