Mexico warns U.S. connected vehicle ban violates USMCA, WTO rules

The Commerce Department’s proposed ban on “connected vehicles” that contain software and hardware from China and Russia could violate the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement as well as World Trade Organization rules, the Mexican government has claimed. Citing national security risks related to the collection of sensitive data, Commerce in September proposed a ban that would block autos with Chinese or Russian hardware starting with model year 2027.
