Solar industry groups urge Commerce to reject circumvention claims

More than 240 solar energy companies are pressing the Commerce Department to issue negative rulings in a set of probes into solar products imported from Southeast Asia, warning that affirmative determinations would constitute an “improper expansion” of U.S. trade remedy law. In a Nov. 16 letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, released by the Solar Energy Industries Association, the companies contended there was “ample evidence” to support negative determinations. The probes, launched earlier this year, involve claims by domestic manufacturer...

China on Friday announced that it was ending an antidumping investigation into imports of U.S. sorghum amid ongoing trade talks between the two countries. Commerce issues preliminary CVD determination in aluminum sheet case

The Commerce Department on Tuesday said Chinese exporters of common alloy aluminum sheet receive significant countervailable subsidies. The preliminary subsidy margins outlined by Commerce range from 31.20 percent to 113.30 percent of the value of imported common alloy aluminum sheet from China. ITC terminates Section 337 investigation brought by U.S. Steel

The U.S. International Trade Commission last week terminated the Section 337 case brought by U.S. Steel against Chinese steel manufacturers, officially ending a two-year investigation into alleged unfair trade practices. The company's third claim -- accusing Chinese steel company Baosteel of receiving and acting upon...

Commerce postpones preliminary AD ruling in Chinese aluminum sheet probe

After deeming its self-initiated antidumping investigation into common alloy aluminum sheet from China “extraordinarily complicated,” the Commerce Department has postponed a preliminary determination until June. Commerce last November self-initiated what it called “historic” AD and countervailing duty probes into imports of common alloy aluminum sheet from China. The CVD preliminary determination is expected later this month, but the AD verdict has been pushed back by 50 days. “Because Commerce has the support of cooperating parties and has deemed the investigation...

ITC terminates 337 antitrust claim against Chinese steel manufacturers

The U.S. International Trade Commission on Monday terminated the final claim brought by U.S. Steel in a two-year-long Section 337 investigation against Chinese steel manufacturers, giving the ITC the option of imposing remedies on any defaulting respondents in the probe. The antitrust claim was the last active piece of the case after the ITC tossed U.S. Steel's trans-shipment claim last November. The company's third claim -- accusing Baosteel of receiving and acting upon trade secrets stolen from U.S. Steel by...
